more shards of alara spoiler thoughts

September 6, 2008

With more and more shards of alara spoilers coming out, I try my best to stay on top of them. The constantly changing space around Magic the gathering is leading to a strange site layout and more powerful cards. Not to mention a horrible fat pack layout with the loss of the novel and that all of the booster packs inside will now replace a common with a land. Also, the introduction of mythic rares replacing one in eight rares.

Oh the sweet possibilities of unearth. with the orb of insight telling me that cycling will once again be prevalent, the graveyard is looking more and more promising for those Grixis folks. Corpse Connoisseur will definitely be burying graves for a certain Demigod very soon and of course other cards with unearth just to speed up their instant death-to-haste resurrection-to-removal process.

Afraid of a bunch of your creatures potentially being fried from the flames of Caldera Hellion upon summoning? Well let him devour those sweet morsels for strength! Unfortunately the orb of insight gave me a 0 result for “protection” so out of the 11 hits for “knight” none will have protection from red for this guy or anything else. By the way, here is a spoiled page from an unreleased magic magazine showing a solid 5/4 for RGW!

I do like unearth, bot it doesn´t sound all brand new to the game… Graveyard and “animate” death creatures is an old arquetype to specially build black decks… However, creatures with unearth ability let more space for other cards because you can forget “bone harvesters” and “unerthers” spells… I guess it’ll bring out some good black decks again…

Flashback has been around for spells sure, but for creatures is kind of an interesting spin. I see what you mean though. I will do a further post into Grixis strategy very soon!
