shards of alara planeswalker + more

September 8, 2008

As we all expected, Sarkhan Vol’s final ability would summon dragons, but this is where mythic rares start to show their true shade of burnt orange, he summons 5, red, 4/4, flying, dragon tokens from the depths of Jund. Also, if you get him to live with one loyalty counter on him after dropping those five, next turn they can all be 5/5’s. 25 damage flying straight at you potentially by around 5th turn if you start mana boosting to get him out, au revoir.

Battlegrace Angel is yet another airborne 4/4 that can become a 5/5 the turn after it is summoned with the Bant shard’s new mechanic: Exalted. When a creature attacks, and it is the lone fighter, it is granted +1/+1 until end of turn. What is great about this mechanic is that it stacks, and with Battlegrace in play the attacker also is swinging with lifelink.

I find it interesting that there is such a stark difference between Bant and Jund already just in the way they treat their creatures. Jund’s philosophy is to attack with the many and Bant’s is about giving just one the tools to succeed in battle.

So tomorrow I will be ordering my own Planeswalker’s Guide To Alara and I will have scans and loads of information and opinions about the inner workings of every part of Alara. Also I would like to thank everyone who visits this blog, I have gotten so many views lately, so I want to ask those who read: Which shard are you most excited for and what do you think they will bring to the game in the very near future?

Exalted doesnt’t pay my attention, even thogh more than one creature with this ability were in play at the same time… I think is a really weak ability… A “Lord” creature is more powerfull by its own than exalted ones… However Sharkan it’s awesome, Planeswalkers have a new king because Garruk looks not as deadly compared to Sharkan… May be Sharkan seems not well balanced at first look but we have to see it in play before taking any conclusion…
